Barrie Bennett

We had the pleasure of having Barrie Bennett, associate professor from the University of Toronto, in our class today. Barrie has spent much of his career researching instructional intelligence, teaching learning, and pedagogy. Today he focused on teaching students with learning differences how to write a paragraph. After a lot of peer work, peer evaluation, and collaborative vocal writing of a paragraph, Barrie demonstrated his favourite learning tool: the concept map. Below is a very quick example of how to concept map his lesson on paragraphing. Brilliant!

We feel very lucky to have been able to spend this time with him and look forward to seeing him in action again. Now on to find all the iPad ways of concept mapping…hmmm…Popplet? Inspiration Maps? Paper53? Stay tuned!

  1. Very sorry our kids were not in the grades that got to hear his talk. Sounds great!
